W\u00e4hrend immer mehr Stra\u00dfenl\u00e4ufe im Herbst 2020 und sogar Winter 2020\/21 vor einer Absage stehen oder schon weitgend abgesagt wurden, k\u00f6nnte die 40. Ausgabe des Virgin money London Marathon<\/strong> nach Worten von Race Director Hugh Brasher<\/strong> nach wie vor \u00fcber die B\u00fchne gehen. Die Jubil\u00e4umsausgabe war urspr\u00fcnglich auf den 26. April angesetzt, wurde aber schon zeitig auf den 4. Oktober 2020 verschoben. Wie fraglich allerdings die Lage in der internationalen Szene aktuell ist, zeigt schon die Tatsache, dass fast alle Veranstalter sehr unsicher die Perspektiven ihrer Rennen im kommenden Herbst bewerten. Nach Absagen in Berlin, Chicago, New York City, Rotterdam, Hamburg, etc. erscheint es eigentlich mehr als unwahrscheinlich, dass an der Themse ein Massenevent stattfindet. Dabei k\u00f6nnte allerdings ein reines Eliterennen – \u00e4hnlich wie beim Tokyo Marathon am 1. M\u00e4rz 2020 – eine machbare Alternative sein, das vor allem die Pr\u00e4senz des Laufs in den Medien sichern w\u00fcrde.<\/p>\n Hier die aktuellen Statements von Hugh Brasher<\/strong>: “Some of you will have seen that a pathway for the return of mass participation running events was published on Tuesday 21 July. As a result, we expect you will see many more announcements of races going ahead in August, September and beyond.Those documents were produced by UK Athletics (our sport\u2019s governing body) in consultation with the medical profession, London Marathon Events (that\u2019s us) and other large mass participation event organisers, and are in line with the work we have been doing over many months to show how we can socially distance the Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday 4 October.<\/em><\/p>\n However, there are areas within these documents requiring further consultation with local NHS Trusts, the emergency services and local authorities which means we are still unable to confirm our plans for another 10 days, when that consultation will have been completed.I realise that this uncertainty is far from ideal and I would like to thank you for your patience and understanding in these very challenging circumstances.We know how important the Virgin Money London Marathon is to you, to charities and in showing the world the wonderful spirit of London, of Great Britain and of our running community.
